LATC – Business Advisor – Business Development

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Associate’s degree or higher, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  2. Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience in a manufacturing environment.
  3. Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a sales-related or business development role.
  4. Familiarity with Continuous Improvement, Supply Chain, Quality Management Systems, Leadership Development, Automation, and other general manufacturing best practices.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required, with CRM experience preferred.

REPORTS TO: SDMTS Director, LATC Vice President, LATC President

DUTIES:

  1. Work with SDMTS and LATC teams to reach annual programmatic and strategic goals.
  2. Collaborate with the SDMTS team to assess the market and identify areas of opportunity for the delivery of relevant training, consulting, project work, and events for manufacturing and related industries.
  3. Initiate and/or maintain relationships with manufacturers, statewide resource partners, and other stakeholders for the purpose of growing SDMTS’ client base.
  4. Actively prospect for opportunities to provide SDMTS’ services to manufacturers in SD, with a focus on small to medium operations.
  5. Lead discovery conversations with manufacturing clients and assess needs, aligning them to the appropriate SDMTS solutions and Business Advisor(s) or other delivery provider.
  6. Collaborate with consultants and organizations that complement/supplement the services of SDMTS’ and LATC’s internal resources.
  7. Assist in collecting SDMTS’ impact data, surveys, and other NIST MEP grant-related performance information.
  8. Comply with federal statutes, grant terms and conditions, and budget requirements, as well as all SDMTS, LATC, and Watertown School District policies and procedures.
  9. Represent the SDMTS at local, state, and national events/activities as required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Ability to communicate in written and verbal methods with clients, staff, and the public.
  2. Ability to visualize and solve complex problems.
  3. Ability to manage and prioritize time effectively to meet established goals and adapt to changing priorities.
  4. Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed.
  5. Must possess a valid driver’s license and provide a reliable means of transportation for the performance of work responsibilities if the company fleet is unavailable; regular local and statewide travel is required.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary Range: $90,000 – $95,000

Applicants must have a safe and strong driving history.

12-month contract with salary and benefits set by the Watertown School Board.

Internal Operations Support (SDMTS)

South Dakota Manufacturing & Technology Solutions (SDMTS), hosted by Lake Area Technical College, is the official Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) center for South Dakota. As part of the MEP National Network, SDMTS is a public-private partnership that provides business consulting services to help manufacturers grow and strengthen the state’s economy.


Position Summary

The Internal Operations Support role provides administrative, operational, and event coordination support to help SDMTS achieve its strategic and program goals. This position works closely with leadership, marketing partners, and clients to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support SDMTS in achieving annual programmatic and strategic goals
  • Manage communication with marketing contractors and provide team updates
  • Coordinate on- and off-campus events, meetings, and trainings
  • Manage accounts receivable and reporting
  • Oversee contracts with clients and third-party vendors
  • Provide clerical and administrative support to the SDMTS Director
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or higher in accounting, marketing, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of experience in event coordination, project management, or administrative support
  • Strong customer service mindset
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with QuickBooks and CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce) preferred
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule as needed
