Notes from last week

Poll Results

Is your company short any of the following PPE?

  • Majority of respondents polled were not short anything

Are employees having trouble with fogging glasses or safety glasses while wearing masks?

  • 78% of respondents said yes

Crisis Communication – Heather Hitterdal, H-Squared Communications

  • Heather spoke about recent blog post she published about Crisis Communication tips
  • The tool she has found most valuable using is called a message map, which helps you anticipate questions in advance
  • Stick to three main points in your communications (we appreciate you, this is what we are doing to keep you safe, this is what you can do to keep yourself safe)
  • Her website is www.h-squared.com.

Cleanliness – Jerry Berg, Intek

  • Jerry talked about how Intek handles cleaning a facility
  • The biggest takeaway is to make sure you are following the directions listed on an EPA-approved cleaning solution to properly disinfect a surface
  • Disinfectants should be searched by the EPA registration number on the bottle because some products go by various names.
  • The more notice they have about a cleaning job, the better. If it is an emergency, they can usually react within a day. Just call or email them with your preferred cleaning time.
  • The virus appears to last around 3-4 days on surfaces, but nobody knows for sure
  • On a hierarchy of difficulty to kill, Kyle’s understanding is that the Covid-19 virus falls into the same category as Rhinovirus

Thermal Imaging Technology Comments – Gary Larson

  • Gary comments on the Feevr thermal scanning system, which is a low cost system that MTS purchased to test that can screen employees’ temperatures as they enter into the workplace.  MTS will loan out this thermal scanning system to several manufacturers to validate its effectiveness.
  • Pros: economical (system costs $2,500), grabs temperature fast, flags elevated temperature and saves file
  • Cons: Someone has to monitor the device while people walk by to get scanned to catch outliers, battery is estimated to last around six hours.
